Description

The GR 11 is the GR path that covers the southern slopes of the Pyrenees from the Cantabrian sea to Cape Creus.

In Catalonia, the Aragonese sector is reached at the confluence of the river Salenques with the Noguera Ribagorzana, close to the souther mouth of the Viella/Vielha tunnel. The path climbs bordering the Montardo, passing Colomers and dropping down to the Lake of Sant Maurici and the river Noguera Pallaresa before crossing the Ferrera Valley to enter Andorra through the Portella de Baiau. It leaves Andorra through the Port of Vallcivera, entering La Cerdanya to Puigcerdà. From here, it climbs back up through Planoles and Queralbs to the Valley of Núria, where it finds the Pyrenees crests once again. It then drops down through La Garrotxa, through Setcases and Molló, continues through Beget Sant Aniol and, bordering the Bassegoda, enters El Empordà through Albanyà and Maçanet de Cabrenys to the border town of La Jonquera; It covers the Sierra of Les Alberes and, finally, climbs up to Sant Pere de Roda, fron where it drops down again to Port de la Selva and Cape Creus.
As well as the main path, there are different variants of the Catalan GR 11 that allow for alternative routes. The GR 11-7 is the variant from Nùria to Coll de la Marrana (through Coma de Vaca). The GR 11-8 is the variant from Dórria to Planoles. The GR 11.10 leads from Les Escaldes (Andorra) to La Cabana dels Esparvers through the Port of Perafita. The GR 11.18, only suitable in the heights of summer when the snow disappears, goes from La Restanca to Colomers. The GR 11.20, which starts in Pont de Suert (where the Pyrenees Path joins the Aragonese GR 15), avoiding the highest area of the GR 11, to rejoin it in Espot. This variant has the attraction of climbing up the renamed Valley of Boí. Lastly, the GR 11-20/1, from Boi to Senet.
