The district of Los Realejos springs up in the middle of the fertile valley of La Orotava, in the northern part of the island of Tenerife. Near Puerto de la Cruz, it has a wide range of tourist possibilities which include beaches and inland routes. Los Realejos became a municipal district in the mid-20th century after the amalgamation of the villages of Realejo de Arriba and Realejo de Abajo. It occupies the western sector of the Valley of La Orotava, which is characterized by the singular beauty of its natural landscapes. On the coast, Los Realejos has wide beaches such as La Fajana, Castro and El Socorro, this last one being ideal for windsurfing. It is easy to come across fine examples of traditional Canary Islands architecture throughout the district. It is also worth mentioning its two main monuments: the church of Santiago (15th century) and that of La Concepción. From Los Realejos you can embark on excursions around the northern part of Tenerife. The nearest towns are La Orotava, declared to be Historic-Artistic Heritage, and Puerto de la Cruz. Nature lovers can visit the Teide National Park, which has a great many species of native Canary Islands flora and fauna. This tour can be rounded off by visiting the Corona Forestal National Park, which surrounds the first national park.
