Description

This exhibition features over 200 previously unseen objects from the Meiji era from the Federico Torralba Collection of Oriental Art in the Zaragoza Museum, which have been restored for the occasion.

The Meiji era is an important historical period in Japan, and was a time when the country opened up to the outside world and underwent a rapid process of modernisation. While its culture was reinvigorated with the influences of western architects, sculptors and painters, Japanese artworks inundated the markets of the West. The exhibition illustrates this period through over 200 works –including prints, porcelain, lacquer items and ivory– dating from the Meiji era.
