Description

The show looks at the artistic evolution of Spanish painter Darío de Regoyos to mark the centenary of his death.

The collection especially focuses on Darío de Regoyos' best-known period, Impressionism, offering a large selection of works. The artist was part of the European vanguard painting movements of L'Essor and Les XX. The effect of light on his canvases stands out in the work, filled with landscapes and portraits. He started his career in Madrid although he then moved to Brussels where he embraced the most avant-garde trends. His return to Spain and subsequent travels around the country inspired a new period in his painting, known as “La España negra” or reactionary Spain. These symbolist works by de Regoyos are examples of the darkest side of Spanish tradition. Thanks to his friendship with artists such as Seurat, Signat and Pissarro, he then discovered and started to apply the pointillisme technique.
