Plaça de Catalunya
Barcelona  (Catalonia)

Autonomous region:

The Plaça de Catalunya is a square in the centre of the city of Barcelona and one of the city's main meeting points. It is one of Spain's largest squares.

This is one of the hubs of Barcelona life, and is the starting point for various major thoroughfares such as Las Ramblas, the Paseo de Gracia and the Ronda de Sant Pere. This is a large space which throughout the year hosts various shows and exhibitions, in addition to trade fairs and popular gatherings. The area also comprises one of the main commercial areas in Barcelona and serves as a hub for numerous transport modes. The square has an enormous central space surrounded by landscaped areas with trees, and is the site of two matching fountains separated by a terrace, and a range of sculptures by major artists, most of them Catalan. The statues include works by Josep Clarà, Pablo Gargallo, Josep Llimona and Enrique Casanovas.
