Different landscapes on the coast
The Reserve's most important characteristic is the diversity of ecosystems it presents. We can distinguish several different landscapes in the Reserve. The cliffs, with heights ranging between 10 and 50 metres. There is also an area of beaches open to the sea, such as those of Merón and Oyambre, and another 'inland beaches' which open out onto the estuaries, such as those of San Vicente or La Rabia. Then we come across the actual estuaries of San Vicente and La Rabia, that form another different ecosytem. The most varied ensemble with the most important biological richness is the marsh. The fifth landscape is made up of series of dunes.Lastly, the more inland area, forming low hills covered in meadows and crossed by streams. Thus, the Reserve's flora and fauna is quite different, according to the ecosystem in question. Thus, we find a diversity of birds of prey that nest in the cliffs, and numerous species of migratory birds in the marshes.Type of area
