Sierra de las Nieves Nature Reserve

It has been designated a European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) by the European Commission in recognition of its proposal for sustainable tourism.

Sierra de las Nieves Mountains (Andalusia), a Nature Park, designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, is a veritable green paradise, just a stone's throw from the Costa del Sol, a few kilometres from Marbella and very close to cities like Malaga and Ronda.

Sierra de las Nieves is an inland destination, an ideal location that provides an opportunity for close contact with nature, its culture and a wide range of possibilities and activities. There is diverse vegetation and wildlife, especially the Spanish ibex and the Spanish fir.

The regional range of tourist attractions is based on an "Ecological-Cultural" concept. It includes more specific products aimed at different client segments, especially: eco-tourism, green tourism, cultural tourism, agro-tourism, adventure tourism, bird watching, ethno-tourism and health tourism.

Area: 20163 Hectares
Information for visits: The park has a Visitor Centre in Ronda (Casa de la Alameda del Tajo, s/n) and an information point (Palacio de Mondragón, s/n. Ronda, 29400. Malaga). It is best reached from Ronda or Tolox.
Environmental information: The landscape in this reserve is considered to be one of the most beautiful in all Andalusia. Its morphological structure is of great value, with underground limestone formations including the GESM chasm, the third deepest in the world. Surrounded by the Ronda mountains, this is a partially mountainous area with extremely valuable forest resources.
Cultural information: The villages around the nature reserve offer an excellent showcase of the area's cultural, monumental and artistic heritage. The lovely historic town of Ronda is one of the most outstanding examples.
