Dedicated to the naval world
The museum is located in the neoclassical Rey Carlos III building of the historic San Carlos Military and Naval Base.
The Naval Museum opened in 1843, but the museum as it is today was inaugurated in 1992. Among its functions are the acquisition, research into, preservation and exhibition of collections with historic, artistic, scientific and technical importance, related to naval activities. The majority of its pieces, which are distributed over 15 rooms, come from Cadiz, the Madrid Naval Museum and private collections. Special mention should be made of the rooms dedicated to Underwater Archaeology, Marine Offerings, Religious Objects and Folklore. There is also a monographic room, with exhibitions that are changed periodically.
