There are many interesting monuments in Ourense old town. One of these is Santa María Nai Church. It is located on one side of Plaza Mayor Square, probably on the site of what was once the city's early cathedral. The church is at the top of a splendid stone staircase. It was built in 1088, and rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century in a Baroque style. Little more than a few marble columns in the façade remain from the original basilica.
