Accessing the walled enclosure

It is one of the entrances to the walled enclosure of Dalt Vila. It connects the Reina Sofía park with the Plaza del Sol, through a stair-filled tunnel measuring 50 m long and 3 m high. It preserves the original 16th century wooden doors and is crowned by the coat of arms of the Crown of Aragon. The name Portal Nou (New Gateway) is probably due to the fact that it substituted the old gateway of dels Aiguaders, which disappeared following the construction of the Renaissance walls.
