It is about 5km from the city of Mérida, built in the waters of a lagoon and it takes its name from a plaque found in the 18th century invoking the goddess Persephone. The wall is made of earth and cement covered with granite blocks forming a slope. The water reaches Mérida via a long water pipe and the Aqueduct of Los Milagros (the Miracles).
