Fernando Alonso museum and race track planned for Asturias
Formula One star Fernando Alonso is set to have a museum and race track dedicated to him in Asturias, the region where he was born.
His father, José Luis Alonso, who presides over the Foundation for the Development of the Automobile Industry of Asturias, confirmed that plans for the attraction are already underway.
The regional government has received one million euros to put towards the race track and museum in La Morgal in the Llanera area of the region.
The Fernando Alonso Sports Complex, which has been five years in the planning, was given the final go-ahead in December, with the approval of minister for education, culture and sport, Ana González.
Alonso, the two-time World Champion who races for Ferrari, announced the advance on his Twitter page, writing: 'If everyone achieves what has been agreed, by the end of 2013 we should have a museum and racing circuit in Asturias. Good news!!!'
Cars that the legendary driver has used will be included in the museum and the racing track will be for karting, meaning local youngsters as well as visitors from all over the world can enjoy the facilities.
