The Gitana Cup for sailing has been held since 1902 and is one of Europe’s longest-running events. It takes place in waters of the Basque Coast.

Boats take part in the following categories: Period vessels (launched up to 31 December 1949); Classic (launched between 1 January 1950 and 31 December 1975); replicas can also take part – boats designed during said periods but launched later, as long as they have been constructed following the original plans closely and using the same techniques and materials of the period in which they were designed.
