Go out, breathe deeply and get ready to start pedaling and discover the real Catalonia by bike. In this Region in northeastern Spain you can cycle to hidden Mediterranean coves, up into the Pyrenees Mountains and discover medieval landscapes. Get ready, because two wheels never offered you so much: the chance to explore Catalonia in your own time... and much more.
Allow us to suggest an original kind of tourism. It is time to forget about timetables. For this trip the only thing you need is to be up for some fun, because everything including your bike is waiting for you at your destination. Catalonia has kilometres and kilometres of perfectly signposted tracks and trails with a host of welcome points to start from. This region has a total of 16 routes for you to discover in an original way.
What do I need?
You don't have to be a great athlete to do this trip. You don't even need to bring all the gear from your country. All you need is enthusiasm and to know what a "centro BTT" is.
The "centro BTT" (MTB centre) will be your departure point once you are in Catalonia. These are areas with free access, designed for biking enthusiasts. They ensure a minimum of 100 kilometres of tracks and trails, mapped and well signposted, so that you can enjoy tourism on two wheels. Each MTB centre also has a welcome point where you can do everything from hiring your bike to getting information about places of interest to visit en route. All available in several languages. Furthermore, these routes meet official quality standards and are completed by accommodation and restaurant options for you to rest and recuperate.
What will I see?
Following these cycle-touring routes you will discover Catalonia's traditions, fiestas, gastronomy, local people and monuments. By bike, however, you will also discover places in the Catalonia Pyrenees that a tourist bus simply does not get to. You will feel unique sensations of contrast as you head out of these mountains towards the Costa Brava through the luxuriant forests of Montseny. You can even visit coves on the Costa Dorada, unseen on organised tours.
May we give you one piece of advice? Come and live this experience in good company. With partner, friends or family, because this plan is ideal to share with others.
How can I organise it?
You can discover all the cycle-touring routes available in Catalonia before you head for Spain by contacting the Region's tourist offices, where they will give you detailed information.
Once everything is organised, just feel the pleasure of new sensations in direct contact with nature: discover Catalonia by bike.
