The Prado Museum presents for the first time a representative sample of its collection of miniatures.
The exhibition comprises 36 miniatures and three small portraits, including the oil painting by Goya entitled 'Juana Galarza de Goicoechea'. Miniatures represent the most intimate aspect of painting, as they generally formed part of people's private lives. They also fulfilled a state function, as they were commonly presented as gifts to ambassadors and foreign emissaries to mark official proclamations, marriages and the signing of treaties.
