Castellar de N’Hug is a very typical town located on the northern end of the province of Barcelona, within the region of Berguedà.

Surrounded by an exuberant natural setting, the city centre preserves beautiful examples of Catalan Romanesque architecture.

Castellar de N’Hug has a very well kept network of cobbled streets with beautiful example of rural architecture , characterised by traditional stone houses.

During the Middle Ages, this town lived a great artistic splendour, as evidenced by the numerous Romanesque buildings that still stand all around the region. At the heart of the historic quarter, we find the church of Santa María de N’Hug, built in the 11th century, with Neoclassical elements.

In the outskirts we find other Catalan Romanesque architectural gems, such as Sant Vicenç de Rus, a temple that dates back to the 12th century, with interesting mural paintings, and San Joan de Cornudell, crowned by a belltower with a steeple.

The farming tradition of Castellar de N’Hug can be seen today in one of its most remarkable attractions: the International Shepherd Dogs Contest. This competition takes place on the last Sunday in August, and it measures the skill of these animals through different tests.

Castellar de N’Hug offers the visitor many interesting museums. At the place known as Clot del Moro we find the Catalonia Museum of Transport and the Museum of the Factory of Asland de Castellar de N’Hug, a beautiful example of Modernist architecture that was the first cement factory in Catalonia.
