Alcázar de San Juan
Famous for its carnival, which was declared a festivity of Regional Tourist Interest, Alcázar de San Juan conforms with the typical profile of the towns in La Mancha, with ancestral homes that date from the 17th to 19th centuries, and several windmills.
The city centre was arranged about the square of Plaza de Santa María. The palace of Gran Prior de los Hospitalarios stands out, with a large tower that was declared a Cultural Object, and the palatial chapel, with a battlemented structure and Gothic windows. We must point out, among the religious buildings, the Romanesque church of Santa María la Mayor, which still has its semicircular apse; the parish church of Santa Quiteria, from the 16th to the 17th century; the transitional-Gothic church of San Francisco; the church of Santísima Trinidad, with a Baroque main front; and the convent of Santa Clara, also known as convent of Concepción.
