Suggestions to enjoy Monfragüe National Park

Monfragüe National Park, in the region of Extremadura, stands out because of its important Mediterranean forests and because it is a great place for bird watching. We'll give you a few hints so you can enjoy it during your visit.

There are several marked waymarked routes in the park. On these three routes you'll also be able to enjoy a free guide and some of the routes are also suitable for cycling.

The visit can be more relaxed if you choose to go round the park in a 4x4 or by bus. Both types of visits shall have to be booked in advance with one of the companies that work in the area. If you want to find out more about the essence of the park, we recommend that you organise a bird watching day to discover the many bird species that live here.

Meadows are very typical in the Monfragüe ecosystem, where cows are often grazing. You are sure to want to know more about them when you see them. You'll be able to go to a visitor centre in an estate where you'll be able to see how pigs, cows, donkeys and sheep are fed, for example.

Another interesting option in the park is the guided tour of the cave paintings in the castle shelter, which is also free.

Finally, if you prefer to enjoy a day of adventures, remember that the many companies that work in Monfragüe National Park offer many possibilities such as a paintball field, archery, multi-activity routes and canoeing.
