Spain: the ideal waters for recreational fishing
Yacht on the water
The Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea are perfect for a day's fishing. If you like deep-sea fishing, then the marine resorts along the Spanish coastline will help you organise a tailor-made holiday.
Sports fishing is the water-based sport with the highest number of card-carrying members in Spain. Why? One reason is that Spain has almost 8,000 km of coastline. If you like sports fishing, then climb aboard and enjoy a few unforgettable days at sea. Spain's marine resorts make it easy – you'll find everything you need to enjoy this sporting activity.
One option is to spend a day's fishing in a boat, accompanied by a professional with in-depth knowledge of the coast. Sound interesting? If you're coming with your own boat, then we would recommend you check the practical advice for sailing in Spain. Bear in mind that you need a fishing license. You can apply for one at the corresponding administration. Spain's marine resorts will give you information on the steps to follow and the organisations you need to contact.
The Mediterranean Sea
You'll find marine resorts offering boat trips for sports fishing all along Spain's Mediterranean coast. For example, on the Costa Daurada you'll be able to fish in shallow waters in a mild Mediterranean climate all year round. Meanwhile, the Costa Brava is home to the marine resort of Roses-Cap de Creus, where you can look forward to enjoying a good day's fishing.
There are two marine resorts in the Balearic Islands where you can organise a day's fishing. On the island of Minorca, which has the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation, you'll find the resort of Maó, with a natural harbour almost six kilometres in length; and the marine resort of Llucmajor in Majorca. The coast offers idyllic coves, leisure activities and centuries of maritime tradition.
The Mediterranean coast of the Region of Valencia also has marine resorts offering this kind of fishing: Benicarló-Peñíscola and Marina Alta make the Region of Valencia an ideal destination for sports fishing from boats.
Another option for fishing on Spain's Mediterranean coast is the marine resort of Mar Menor (Murcia). You'll find the Mar Menor is an inland sea with high salt content and a sandy sea floor.
The Atlantic Ocean
There are three marine resorts in Spain offering sports fishing from boats in the Atlantic. The south, in the province of Huelva, located on the Costa de la Luz, is home to the marine resort of Isla Cristina, while in the province of Cadiz you'll find the resort of Bahía de Cádiz Dos Mares; and in the north, the Rías Baixas resort in the province of Pontevedra.
The first has crystal clear waters and a coastline with unspoilt beaches and fine, golden sand. This part of the coast also has marshlands with a high ecological value.
In the Rías Baixas region you'll find a number of different harbours between the Arousa Estuary and Sanxenxo that make this an ideal part of northern Spain for water sports.
Would you like to come and enjoy the sea in Spain? There's fishing and much, much more to do, including endless options for leisure activities in the water. Come and see for yourself.
