In El Puerto de Santa María you'll experience the delights of savouring a paper cone of boiled prawns and a glass of fino (the local fortified wine) by the sea. But before you do, you’ll probably have watched the seafood being boiled to perfection at a seafood bar and then bought something delicious by the quarter or half kilo. Or you might have decided to sit at a pavement cafe and try a few delicacies such as king prawns, gilthead, grilled cuttlefish or “ortiguillas” (fried anemones). The best time of the year is the summer, and one of the best places in the city for seafood and fish is the Ribera del Marisco and surrounding area. You'll also find excellent restaurants near Valedgrana beach, which offer other typical dishes such as “tortillitas de camarones” (tiny crustaceans mixed with a dough of wheat flour then fried), “piriñaca” (tomato, pepper, onion and olive oil salad) or “huevas aliñadas” (fish roe salad).
