It is located in the south of the region of Galicia, in northwest Spain. The area is rich in hot springs, and there are numerous places where travellers can sample the therapeutic properties of these thermal waters by bathing in the open air.

It is an area of green and leafy landscapes with outstanding natural spaces such as the Área de Allariz Biosphere Reserve, and the nature reserves of Serra do Xurés, do Invernadeiro and Serra da Enciña da Lastra.

The Ribeira Sacra and the Silver Routes are just some of the ways visitors can explore the cultural heritage of Ourense and see the architectural and artistic treasures of towns such as Ribadavia. A highlight of the local gastronomy is octopus, and there are several gastronomic festivals to celebrate this product. The province is also known for producing wines with the Ribeiro Designation of Origin label.
