‘La Casa de la Viña y el Vino’ Wine Museum
The Protected Designation of Origin of Cariñena is the oldest in Aragón and one of Spain's historic appellations. Grapevines have been cultivated here since the 3rd century BCE, and its wines have had an excellent reputation throughout history, appearing in many travellers' accounts in the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, and in classic works of Spanish literature. La Casa de la Viña y el Vino was created to pay homage to this long and prosperous history, and as a school for the present and future generations. It is a typical winery in the industrial Art Nouveau style of the early 20th century, and its 1996 restoration received various awards. It now holds the offices of the Regulatory Board, a classroom, a tasting room and the Wine Museum. The Museum provides a simple, easily understandable overview of the Designation of Origin and its history, present and future through permanent and temporary exhibitions, and hosts different social, cultural and commercial events.
