Description

Wines of exceptional quality, prestigious around the world, are produced in this region of Catalonia, located between the plains of the Mediterranean coast and the nearby mountains. This is also where another universally renowned drink is produced: Cava (sparkling wine). Follow the Penedès Wine and Cava Routes and discover this region, with its wealth of art, culture and countryside. Unique experiences await you in landscapes dominated by vineyards and wineries.

What are the wines like?

Wines from the Penedès region are produced from traditional grape varieties, but also with others that have been introduced in recent years. They are mainly young wines with excellent bouquet. The whites are generally very fruity and crisp. The reds are full-bodied, aromatic, with intense colour. Special mention should be made of cava, a naturally-produced sparkling wine. It has an unmistakable flavour. Cava is the wine chosen for special toasts and celebrations, for private, magical moments... Sant Sadurní d’Anoia is the world capital for this product.

What will I find?

Romanesque art: the Sant Sebastià del Gorgs monastery, emblematic of Romanesque architecture in the Penedès region, is of special interest, along with Gelida and Castellet castles and the monuments to be found in Olèrdola.

Castles Route: a guided tour will help you discover the region's most important castles.

Modernism, especially in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Vilafranca del Penedès and Gelida, with guided tours in the three towns. One of the most outstanding examples is the Cavas Codorníu building, the work of architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

Excursions on perfectly signposted tracks and trails that you can do on foot, on horseback or by bike. Vineyards will accompany you on this trip.

Delicious, varied gastronomy, with an array of typical dishes.

If you need more information, enquire at any of the tourist offices.
