Description

This links to GR 7 with Montserrat, the symbolic mountain of Catalan mountaineers.

It begins on the outskirts of Bellprat, climbing the hill on which there are the remains of the walls from the ancient Castle of Queralt. It follows the crests of the Sierra of Miralles to Santa Margarita de Montbui, a suburb of Igualada. From here it goes to La Pobla de Claramunt, from where it follows the traditional pilgrims' path through the villages of the District of Anoia to enter the mountain of Montserrat through Can Massana. It passes the monastery of La Virgen Moreneta and descends to the south of the mountain to Collbató. It then heads for Piera, an old town that preserves the castle where Jaime I The Conqueror lived for a time, and crossing the river Anoia, reaches San Joan de Medion. It then climbs to the Sierra of Puigfred and continues along the crests of the long mountain range that ends at El Montagut. From here, it descends to the Cistercian Monastery of Santes Creus and follows the valley of the river Gaià, dropping down to El Catllar where it turns south west to Tarragona. After visiting the ruins in what was known in Roman times as Tarraco, it continues to the village of Constantí, a name that comes from the fact that Constantino The Young, son of Constantino The Great, was buried here. From here to Reus, the birthplace of the architect Gaudí, climbing the ancient Prades path to rejoin the GR 7 on the outskirts of La Mussara.
