Exhibition: ‘Murillo in the Cathedral of Seville. A Holy Perspective’
Interior of Seville Cathedral
A total of 16 works of art and 40 original documents from the period are on show in the third ‘Year of Murillo’ exhibition, focusing on the painter’s relationship with the Church.
Works like 'Saint Ferdinand', 'The Virgin presenting the Rosary to Saint Dominic', 'The Baptism of Christ' and 'The Vision of Saint Anthony', among others, can be seen in an exhibition which focuses on Murillo as the painter of Catholicism. It also displays the artist’s birth, marriage, and death certificates. A set of educational panels explaining the Council of Trent, popular religion, the family, and Murillo’s timeline provide context for the relationship between Murillo and the Church. A children’s comic has also been published, about the painter’s life.
