Description

'El Guernica', the famous painting by Pablo Picasso, was first shown 80 years ago, and the Reina Sofía National Art Museum is marking the occasion with this commemorative exhibition.

A worldwide icon and symbol of the horrors of war, 'El Guernica' represents a turning point in Picasso’s work. Before its creation, his art had been essentially private and intimate in nature. The exhibition analyses this change with an examination of his personal circumstances and history through around 180 works from institutions around the world. Some of the most notable are 'The Three Dancers', from the Tate Gallery, London; 'Woman Dressing Her Hair', from MOMA, New York; and the sculpture 'Woman in the Garden', from the Musée Picasso, Paris.
