Description

This exhibition explores a new facet of painter Joaquín Sorolla, that of capturing popular or picturesque costumes of an ethnographic nature.

The great commission to decorate the Library of the Hispanic Society led Sorolla to travel around the entire country in search of the authentic and most picturesque sights in Spain.

During these travels, the purpose of which was to find reliable inspiration for his large paintings, Sorolla acquired a small but interesting collection of popular attire and jewellery.

This is the first time in Spain that this material is being exhibited together. The exhibition is divided into four areas (Castile, Valencia, Andalusia and the Valleys of the Pyrenees).
