Canary Islands landscape with character
Many streams run through the landscape with palm trees in Caldera de Taburiente.
The rugged landscape, produced by the uneven land, is the most attractive feature of this National Park. Many streams and waterfalls cross the park. The presence of endemic plant species is also important: there are huge expanses of Canary Island pines, for example. Caldera de Taburiente is an immense depression which has the highest peaks on the island: El Roque de los Muchachos (2,426 m), Pico de la Cruz (2,351 m), Piedra Llana (2,321 m), Pico de la Nieve (2,236 m), Punta de los Roques (2,085 m), etc. From here, the terrain drops down into the crater with almost vertical faces over 800 m high, until they reach 430 m above sea level, meaning that the difference in altitude is around 2,000 m.

More access information.
Environmental information: It is an enormous cirque with a diameter of 8 kilometres and a difference in altitude of about 2,000 metres. It looks like a crater because of volcanic eruptions, landslides and the action of the water. Like the rest of the Canary Islands, the island of La Palma emerged from the bottom of the ocean thanks to different volcanic eruptions. In the park there are important geological formations and the most ancient lava on the island rises from them.
Cultural information: You can visit El Paso, which is the largest municipality on the island. On the vast plain you can spot the Church of Nuestra Señora del Pino, which got its name from the spectacular Canary Island pine that stands next to it. Ancient aboriginal remains can be found in the park: there are engravings on the rocks.
