This GR path connects the coast with the inland in the province of Castellón, crossing it from east to west to join the GR 7 in Sant Joan de Penyagolosa, which runs from north to south.
The route joins Castelló de la Plana with the hermitage of Sant Joan de Penyagolosa (1,300 m.), passing through the villages of Les Useres and Xodos and through the municipalities of Castellón de la Plana, Borriol, Vilafamés, Les Useres, Atzeneta, Llucena, Xodos and Vistabella.
Its physiognomy is defined by the teeth of the sierra made up by the mountains parallel to the sea and Sant Joan de Penyagolosa, thus the path runs continually up and down, to a total climb of 2,500 m. with its corresponding descents on a route of 58 km.
The predominant landscape is made up of bushes, cropland and pine, holm oak and juniper forests. All of this forms an extremely varied landscape from the typical Mediterranean to that of the continent.
Along the route are the chapel of Sant Vicent de Borriol, the Arabic castle of Borriol in Les Useres and, in the locality of Llucena, the former castle and now chapel of Sant Miquel de les Torrocelles. Xodos is located at an altitude of 1000 m. on the spurs of the Penyagolosa peak and surrounded by pine and kermes oak forests.
The route ends in Sant Joan de Penyagolosa, a hermitage where pilgrimages converge every year from almost all of the surrounding villages.
The GR 33 joins the GR 7 at the hermitage and, from here, here are 11 small circular routes (PR-V 64 to PR-V 74) starting and ending at the hermitage, which offer a general view of Penyagolosa and its surrounding area from the different routes. There is a guidebook on this network of paths that was published in 1994 by the Castelló Hikers' Centre under the title of 'Penyagolosa Excursions on foot'.
