Destino II
El Hierro

It is located in the southwest of the island of El Hierro and includes the villages of El Pinar and La Restinga. It is in an exceptionally beautiful setting, with a mountainous landscape of volcanic origin.

El Pinar offers numerous opportunities for nature, culture and sport. Practically 80 % of its territory lies inside the Frontera Rural Reserve, and a broad stretch of its coastline forms part of the Punta de la Restinga Mar de Las Calmas Marine Reserve. In short, it is an ideal place for enjoying activities such as hiking, climbing, scuba diving and sailing. A good way of seeing the volcanic landscape of El Pinar is to head for any of its viewing points. Two of the most exceptional are the viewing points of Las Playas and Tanajara. There is also a place where you can see a range of unique volcanic formations: El Lajial, a space which could be from another planet, with various different types of lava flows. In order to learn more about the island's past, visitors should not miss a trip to El Julan, one of the most important archaeological sites in the Canary Islands. Other visits of interest are the Orchilla lighthouse (the westernmost point in Spain), Tacorón (ideal for enjoying a day on the beach, with spectacular sunsets), Meridian 0 (a point that was for centuries considered to be the end of the world), and El Morcillo park (the only space on El Hierro where camping is permitted).
