The church owes it name to the appearance of a carving of the Virgin in the reed beds that surround the estuary, circa 1400. The current building was began in the 16th century. The church as a hall floor plan, with three naves and an apse.At the foot of the building lies the tower.Of particular note inside in the Reredos of the Virgen del Juncal, by Juan de Bazkardo in the 17th century.
