Oviedo , in Asturias, becomes the Spanish culture capital and a worldwide point of reference for a few days with the presentation of the Príncipe de Asturias Prizes.
Their prime objectives are to promote scientific, cultural and humanist values that are considered as universal heritage. There are eight categories: Communication and Humanities, Social Sciences, Arts, Literary Arts, Scientific and Technological Research, International Cooperation, Union and Sports. The prizes are awarded annually at a solemn ceremony presided by members of the Spanish royal family, with the attendance of international authorities and figures from a broad range of cultural spheres.
