Corpus Christi in Villa de Mazo

Villa de Mazo, located on the Island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, is filled with colour and the heady scent of flowers during the Corpus Christi festivities each spring.

The festival programme includes sporting events, exhibitions, competitions, theatre, children’s games, music, concerts, and more. But what stands out above all are the streets carpeted with flower petals, and the arches decorated with flowers, seeds and plants. On the eve of Corpus Christi, the locals set these triumphal arches in place, and cover the village streets with carpets of flowers. Later in the day, the procession of the holy sacrament passes over these works of art that adorn the streets.
