Modernism for all to see

Historic Canet de Mar, on the coast of Barcelona province, has an interesting town centre. Its streets are packed with Modernist buildings by architects like Josep Puig i Cadafalch, Pere Domènech i Roura, Lluís Domènech and Antoni Puig i Gairalt. Sculptors as famous as Josep Llimona, Miquel Blay and Eusebi Arnau, and artists like Josep Pascó are also protagonists of the town's heritage. Highlights of this heritage are the Catalonia Athaeneum, Casa Roura House and the Domènech i Montaner House-museum. A Modernism "route" taking in Canet's buildings is a good way of getting to know the treasures of the town. The main town fiestas are held 29 June, on the day of San Pedro.
