How to get around the city
Visiting the different tourist attractions is easy thanks to the transport network and the nearness of all the points of interest.
If you choose to travel by bus, there are over 30 urban bus routes which operate from 6 am to around 11:00 pm, although the schedule varies according to the line and the day of the week. On Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of holidays there is a night bus known as the 'Bus de Nit', which runs from 11:45 pm-6:30 am.
If you prefer to travel by underground, there is a line which starts at the transport depot in the Plaza de España square which connects with the suburban train service and with several urban buses. It runs from 7:00 am-9:00 pm.
Taxis operate at all hours of the day, every day, although the fares vary according to the day of the week. There are various surcharges for items such as night service, departures from the airport or the dock, and for rides to more remote tourist destinations such as Bellver Castle.
How much does transport cost?
For most bus rides the fare is €1.50, and €10 for the 10-ride tourist bus pass, which cannot be topped up. The fare for the night bus is €1.50.
The price of the underground ticket is €1.50, although there are 20-ride tickets costing €16.55 and 40-ride tickets for €24.85.
Which is the best option?
The choice of whether to buy several single tickets or a transport pass will depend on the time you're planning to spend in the city. If you want to take a tour of the whole island, one of the most convenient ways to get around is to rent a car at the Son Sant Joan airport or in the city itself.
Other ways of getting around
Palma has a sightseeing bus which makes stops at all the most emblematic points in the city, as well as providing a commentary in different languages. You can get on and off as many times as you like. The basic fare is €15, and €18 for two days.
Another option is the Taxi Tour which offers a tour of the most interesting sights. There is also a sightseeing train (line 52) which departs from the Playa de Palma beach and runs along the beachfront. The return ticket is valid for within the day and costs €4.50 (there is no service in winter or in bad weather).
