Mushroom collecting

Get ready to spend a gastronomic day in the heart of nature in Castile-La Mancha collecting mushrooms. The best idea is to seek advice from specialised guides who will reveal the most likely routes for collecting edible mushrooms. You'll be able to explore settings such as the Cabañeros National Park and the Alto Tajo Nature Reserve (some companies even offer 4x4 routes), you can visit the La Casa del Níscalo Mycological Museum (in Albacete ) and above all, you'll have the satisfaction of learning more about this subject, as well as cooking the mushrooms you yourself have collected!

Wine tourism

Have you tried the wine from this region? If you have, you'll love the chance to visit the wineries and take part in tasting sessions. And if you're not yet familiar with it, what better than to sample it while you enjoy the activities arranged by the wineries on the La Mancha Wine Route .

Gode råd

  • We recommend always being accompanied by an expert in mushroom collecting. Do not hesitate to check with the companies who organise these activities.

  • Before consuming any mushroom you have picked, check with an expert, as it could be poisonous.

  • If you book a mushroom-collecting activity through a company, they will provide the necessary equipment (knife, wickerwork basket, etc.) Although the guide's explanations are usually in Spanish, it is sometimes possible to arrange group outings in other languages.

  • Autumn is the best time for mushroom collecting in Castile-La Mancha. Most companies only arrange mushroom collecting activities at this time of year.

  • Some of the most easily recognisable species are the saffron milk-cap, boletus, and the oyster mushroom.

  • It is advisable to contact the wineries before visiting and reserve the activities in which you wish to take part.
