When night falls it is one of the best times to discover Spain's monuments and cities. Illuminated by night they take on an almost magical appearance. In summer, don't miss the chance to go on nocturnal guided tours that are organised at each destination. They are a unique way to discover Spain's heritage that you will love.
Summer is a very special time to discover Spain's cities and enjoy all they have to offer, particularly by night. During the summer period you will find tourist programmes with nocturnal visits and activities available in many destinations, so that you can explore their monuments and emblematic locations. If they are stunning by day, then imagine them shining, illuminated under the stars. Come and see them with your own eyes - this will be the best souvenir you could possibly take home.
The season for nocturnal itineraries starts when the hot weather arrives, normally in May or June through to September. Nevertheless, there are places that extend this season by a couple of months or where they are available all year round. You will find a range of different options, from excursions on foot or by bus, to dramatised itineraries where actors in period dress recreate historical legends and events. Some also include tasting sessions of typical drinks and produce at traditional taverns. For information on the different options, contact the tourist offices, where you can also book the activities you like in advance.
Culture and fun
They are generally guided tours lasting around two hours, with reasonable prices. Be sure to sign up because they are a really wonderful experience. You can use these activities to discover cities like Santiago de Compostela, Toledo or Valencia from a different perspective. In Ávila, for example, you can enjoy dramatised tours in the area around the old city wall. In Palma de Mallorca, guides will tell you strange stories and legends of the city while you explore the old town. In Barcelona, meanwhile, you can take a bus tour, or go out for dinner including a flamenco show.
Are you thinking of a trip to southern Spain? In Cordoba there are dramatised tours of the historic centre, as well as the "Noches de Embrujo" (enchanted nights) programme where you can go to horse riding and flamenco shows in the gardens of Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos Palace. Still in Andalusia, the amazing Alhambra palace in Granada is another ancient building you can discover by night.
Another option is to admire the most important monuments in Zaragoza by moonlight, in the comfort of the city tourist bus on its nocturnal route. The city of Madrid also has its own guided tour programme during the summer.
These are just a few of the options you will find in Spain for summer nights. An unbeatable way to experience history, to enjoy art and culture, to savour local gastronomy… Are you coming?
