All the charm of Toledo in your suitcase
Toledo is one of Spain’s World Heritage cities, and is an example of the peaceful coexistence throughout history of such diverse elements as the Jewish, the Christian and Muslim cultures. The city is a veritable open-air museum.
Swords, damascene work, ceramics, leather articles, embroidery… In Toledo you won’t have any trouble choosing a present. All over the historic centre you’ll find an array of shops and businesses where you can buy the city's most traditional products. These establishments are clustered mainly around the monumental areas such as the Cathedral, the Alcázar and the Jewish Quarter. The streets of Santo Tomé and Comercio are two particularly busy shopping streets. And it is even more fun to visit the shops which have their own crafts workshop. That way you will have the chance to see, for example, how the threads of gold and silver are incrusted into the damascene work by gentle tapping with a tiny hammer. It is also fascinating to hear, from the lips of a master craftsman, the secrets of making a fine sword. Very near the Cathedral you will find the Zamorano swordsmiths’ workshop, one of the few still in existence, where they will be happy to tell you everything you want to know.
