ARCOmadrid, a highlight of the contemporary art year

The city of Madrid is set to host the ARCOmadrid International Contemporary Art Fair between 19 and 23 February. This event has become a firm fixture on the calendar, and in 2014 around 150 curators and directors from special guest museums will be here to celebrate its 33rd edition. The over 200 participating galleries from all over the world will exhibit paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, video, new media, drawing and prints. The Fair is open to the general public from 21 February.

The Juan Carlos I Exhibition Centre in Madrid, IFEMA, will host ARCOmadrid 2014, a prestigious international art fair that aims to promote contemporary art from Spain and abroad, and to encourage art collecting and the creation of an artistic heritage.

A careful selection of experts such as Ruba Katrib, curator of the Sculpture Centre of New York, and Martha Kirszenbaum, independent curator in Paris and Los Angeles, will be present at the Professional Meetings initiative.

ARCOmadrid will also be hosting the 3rd Meeting of European and Ibero-American Museums and FORO, with sessions on collecting.

An innovation this year is the organisation of a series of dialogues, or “Artist Talks”, with the participating artists. ARCO(e)ditorial will also be kicked off, which will include professional, high-quality blogs and the first edition of the ARCObloggers Ideas Contest 2014.

In addition, ARCO 2014 will also present new projects conceived as scenes for experimentation and the demonstration of the international artistic panorama such as Solo Projects, Opening and Focus Finland (in which 11 Finnish galleries will participate, since Finland is the special guest country this year).
