An old working mine.
An open-air working mine dating from the Roman period. A World Heritage site.
It is an open-air working mine that dates from the Roman-Hispanic period. Located in the Bierzo (León) region at some 20 km. from Ponferrada. To get there, take the road to Orense until you reach Carucedo. The water was brought by a system of canals from the Eria and Cabrera rivers more than 100 km. away. The reddish landscape is awesome and was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1997.
