| | Introduction | | | | Visit the Somontano region, in northern Spain. In this part of Huesca, a province in the Region of Aragón at the foot of the Pyrenees, they have been making exquisite wines for years. Top-quality wines to be sampled and savoured slowly. On the Somontano Wine Route you can discover them while you get to know this region and its wealth of cultural heritage. Also stunning are its landscapes of vineyards and the Sierra y los Cañones de Guara Nature Reserve, a unique setting in Europe that attracts thousands of sports enthusiasts every year. |
| | Wine Towns | | | | Barbastro and Alquézar are two of the most outstanding towns on this wine route, but they are not the only ones. On the route you will find charming villages whose history, way of life and traditions have been marked by the presence of wine for centuries. In these places you will find wineries and establishments that will help you discover wine culture. All this in an exceptional setting such as the Sierra y los Cañones de Guara Nature Reserve, a unique landscape in Europe. Use the map on this page to see all the destinations that form part of the Wine Route. |
| | What are the wines like? | | | | Somontano Wines are fruity, fairly strong with good levels of acidity. The whites generally have a crisp, fruity, smooth taste with pale colours and yellowish tones. The rosés are very similar. The red wines, for their part, are outstanding for their ruby colour, their aroma of red forest fruits, their velvety flavour and full bouquet. All these wines are produced from different types of grapes, with predominance of the Chardonnay variety. |
| | How to get there | | | | There are various means of transport available to get to there. The airports in Zaragoza and Barcelona are the closest to Barbastro, the regional capital. Furthermore, the N-240 main road runs between this wine-producing region and the main motorways linking Aragón with Catalonia, Navarre and the Basque Country. Barbastro is 50 kilometres from Huesca and 120 kilometres from Zaragoza. From Madrid, it is 440 kilometres on the A-2 and A-23 motorways. |
