| | Introduction | | | | Come to the central area of Navarre and discover its wine route. Here, besides sampling some exquisite wines, you will also discover a land with a rich history, which lies on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Visit its villages, surrounded by a landscape dominated by vineyards, clear testimony to the importance that wine has had in the region since Roman times. |
| | Wine Towns | | | | Olite, Puente La Reina, Obanos and Tafalla are some of the 25 towns and villages that make up the Navarre Wine Route. This is a land of vineyards, with modern windmills set atop the hills to form a truly unique landscape. The wineries here will show you just what wine culture means in this region. Some are traditional sites, hundreds of years old, while others are more modern and innovative. Use the map on this page to see all the destinations that form part of this Wine Route. |
| | What are the wines like? | | | | Navarre wines are, in general, aromatic, with flavours that are almost fruity, with a good balance between alcohol content and acidity, smooth on the palate. The whites have yellowish tones, fine aromas, with a crisp taste. The rosés, for their part, are rightly renowned for of their unmistakable character: they are dry, crisp and delicate. The red wines produced with this Designation of Origin are equally exquisite. The most popular grape in use in the region is the Garnacha variety. |
| | How to get there | | | | This route runs through the centre of the region of Navarre, in northern Spain. There are various means of transport available to get to there. The airport in Pamplona-Noain is less than 30 kilometres from the region. Furthermore, there are various daily rail services that run between Tafalla and Olite, the main towns on the route, and, Vitoria, Pamplona and Zaragoza. It is also easy to get here by car: the A-15 motorway (Leitzaran motorway) links the region with Pamplona and San Sebastián; there is the AP-68, that runs to Logroño and Zaragoza, and the A-12, motorway, that also heads towards Logroño. |
